When it feels like everyone is selling the same thing, people often wonder: Can I really make money promoting an over-promoted product?

The good news is that you can, as long as you don't do what everyone else is doing!

You'll have to be more strategic and work smarter than the rest, but believe me -- it will be worth it!

Let's look at 5 principles:

Principle 1 - Don't Use The Company Ad or URL

Every company has hired writers who create the promotional materials their associates or affiliates will use. Providing ad copy is a great way to help affiliates get a head start.

But when literally thousands of people are placing the same ads, they become almost worthless.

Your ad doesn't stand a chance when the market is saturated. When they think they know everything about your offer, they simply won't click.

This is one reason that so many ads are seen but not clicked.

The ads the company sends you might sound good, but sounding good and working well are two very different things.

Writing ads in your own voice is key - it's the only guarantee to stand out from the crowd when promoting an over-promoted website.

You can also easily modify the company ads by changing headlines and rearranging paragraphs, which often makes the ad seem far more appealing.

Principle 2 - Focus On One Problem And Solve It

The human mind becomes confused when asked to make too many decisions at one time.

This is why classic advertising (the kind that works) gives readers ONE choice to make.

THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT FOR YOUR ADS!

No matter what the reader chooses, you win.

Your ad, whatever type it may be, IS your sales person.

So how does this apply to you?

Your ad needs to focus on one benefit ONLY, even if your product offers dozens.

Here's an example: The Directory of Ezines offers many benefits, all of which are listed in my sales letter, but the ad needs to sell the click, not the product itself.

Advertising must focused on ONE benefit at a time in order to keep the reader's attention.

Once they say yes to the click, it's up to my sales letter and follow up system to sell the actual product.

So you're going to focus on ONE benefit in each ad.

Principle 3 - Sell Benefits, Not Features

A feature is something the product does, a benefit is what that product does for me; each feature of the product has a corresponding benefit.

This is a classic principle. People tend to care about what's in it for them, so your ad must focus on what people really want.

Remember, you're not selling the contents of a member's area. You are selling the freedom, lifestyle, and independence it provides.

Principle 4 - Never Send Anyone To The Company Website

Let's say you work hard to promote your new-found venture by buying pay per click ads and inserting your affiliate link. Now Paula Prospect sees your ad and clicks the link.

When this happens, you are building the company's business.

While you might make a sale or two, the company will make a fortune. They are building THEIR mailing list off of your efforts.

If you don't know how to create a squeeze page or follow-up email series yet, use what the company provides.

But be sure to create your own squeeze and follow up system as soon as you possibly can and begin building your own list. It matters much more than most people realize.

Succeeding online is ultimately about having your own list.

Principle 5 - Use An Autoresponder Address AND A Website

An "old school" online marketing tip is to use an autoresponder email address AND website URL in your selling message. Very few marketers do this, but trust me, it works.

Many people do NOT click the links in email ads because they want to finish processing their email. We don't like to start things we can't finish.

Why not request an email response rather than requiring them to click-through?

Instead of an interruption, you are letting them get the information whenever they want! Instead of trying to "drive" traffic, you are attracting it.

This is so powerful, and so often overlooked.

There ARE ways to promote even the most over-promoted of programs. Through thinking outside the box and a willingness to try new things, the possibilities are endless.
